Update on Lion's Efforts In Japan

(download)

The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has received donations or commitments exceeding $6 million, including $3 million that the Lions of Japan are working to raise themselves during their own crisis.

With the expected death toll now exceeding 18,000 and rising, the devastation is clearly greater than anyone could have imagined. And more than 400,000 people are still in shelters, in the cold, often going without a hot meal for days on end.

While many of you have already generously donated, please encourage your friends to also donate by visiting www.lcif.org/donate. Please know that every donation will be put to careful use, and 100 percent will go to the cause.

What a Great Event!

Our first “Lions Share” Business Mixer event was a huge success! In attendance were Lions from the Canyon City Club, visiting Lions and dignitaries (District Governor Larry Discuss and cabinet members), local business people, and a number of supporters of Our Neighborhood Homework House (www.neighborhoodhomeworkhouse.org) – the evening’s spotlight nonprofit organization. In total, we had over 50 people attend and raised almost $600 for the Homework House!

The Homework House received special gifts from Athens Services and the Irwindale Lions Club, plus all the proceeds from the entrance fees and tire races. In addition, Express Tire and Auto Service (633 N. San Gabriel Avenue, Azusa, CA. 91702) will be giving free oil changes throughout the month of October to anyone who comes in and makes a gift of $25 or more to the Homework House.

Special thanks to Lions members Louie and Rosario Rosales for the use of the Express Tire and Auto Service site, to the Azusa Chamber of Commerce for their help and support, and to all the individuals and businesses who donated items and raffle prizes for this event.

The "Lions Share" mixers provide a forum for businesses to connect with local residents and business people and support a worthy oprganization/cause at the same time. We look forward to seeing you at the next “Lions Share” mixer! .
